COPENHAGEN, Denmark: 3Shape, a provider of 3-D scanners and CAD/CAM software solutions for the dental industry, has received the “Best of Class” Technology Award from the Pride Institute, a US-based institution that aims to support dentists through information and counsel. The innovation prize was awarded for the company’s TRIOS Color digital impression solution.

Overall, the “Best of Class” Technology Award, which recognises new and innovative products every year, was awarded to 18 companies by the institute’s expert panel. Alongside 3Shape, dental manufacturers Align Technology, Kerr and Ultradent were also honoured. According to the institute, the products that received the awards feature unique characteristics that differentiate them from the competition in a compelling way. In addition, they create value for the general dentist.

“In this highly competitive category, 3Shape’s TRIOS Color solution impressed the panel on many fronts. Scanning is fast and easy to perform, and it creates scanned images with the appearance of real teeth and gingiva in very natural-looking colours. That it commands so much respect in the laboratory space should be a differentiating factor for the practitioner,” said Dr Lou Shuman, President of the Pride Institute.

3Shape will be showcasing its award-winning product during the Pride Institute Technology Expo at the American Dental Association’s Annual Session, which will be held from 31 October to 3 November at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

TRIOS Color, which was launched at this year’s International Dental Show in Cologne, is a digital impression solution based on 3Shape’s Ultrafast Optical Sectioning and RealColor technologies. It offers dentists a tool for accurate 3-D capture and realistic visualisation of a patient’s teeth and gingiva. In addition, the device offers spray- and powder-free scanning, optimised scanning for an extensive range of indications, including customised abutments with emergence profile capture, and clinical scan validation. Its built-in Communicate software facilitates direct communication between dentists and laboratories to exchange case information, 3-D designs, 2-D treatment previews and comments.
