Finnish professor to become new IADR vice president

ALEXANDRIA, Va., USA: Dr. Jukka H. Meurman, a professor of oral infectious diseases at the University of Helsinki in Finland, has been elected as the next Vice President of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR). His term will commence in June 2014, according the IADR announcement made last week.

Meurman, who is a specialist in oral symptoms, signs, and the impact of oral infections on systemic health, will be inaugurated at the 92th IADR General Session, which will be held in Cape Town in South Africa from June 25 to 28 next year.

The professor joined the IADR in 1974 and has served in multiple leadership roles ever since, including President and Secretary General of the IADR Scandinavian Division and Chair of the IADR Regional Development Program Committee. Currently, Meurman is the President of the IADR Pan-European Region. 

The IADR currently has more than 11,500 members worldwide. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to advancing research and increasing knowledge for the improvement of oral health, supporting the oral health research community, and facilitating the communication and application of research findings.
