SINGAPORE: The organisers of the International Dental Exhibition and Meeting (IDEM), which will be held from 4 to 6 April 2014 in Singapore, have announced that a forum especially dedicated to young dentists, namely those within seven years of graduating with a dental degree, and final-year dental students will be held alongside the event for the first time.

The New Dentist Forum will give dentists who are just embarking on their careers the opportunity to attend the main IDEM Singapore sessions as well as two interactive sessions tailored to fit their specific needs, according to the organisers. For instance, the round-table sessions will focus on identifying pathways in early dental career to assist young dentists in the student-to-professional transition.

“The concept is not entirely new, but at IDEM Singapore we will be doing it better. I believe we have got a real insight into the needs of the new professionals and will start a process of addressing their needs, and in doing so also helping the oral health of the public,” said Dr David Alexander, Program Director for the New Dentist Forum.

Dental professionals interested in attending the sessions can register online on the IDEM Singapore website. However, attendance will be limited to ensure optimum interactivity, according to the organisers.
