ROME, Italy: Almost a quarter of Italians have not seen a dentist in the past two years, researchers have found. According to a survey, a significant number of people in the country—especially in the South—avoid dental check-ups.

As reported by website www.gazzettadelsud.it, health research institute Demoskopea conducted a survey of 37,000 people between 18 and 65 years of age for Dottori.it, a website that enables users to search for doctors and book appointments. The survey found that almost 23 per cent of Italians had not had a dental check-up in more than two years.

The worst record for check-ups was found in the southern half of Italy, as well as the islands of Sicily and Sardinia. Liguria also had a poor record, while people living in the Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Lazio regions were the most conscientious in terms of preventative care, the website reported.
