COLOGNE, Germany: In keeping with the current catchphrases of digitisation, ergonomics and workflow optimisation, J. Morita is currently presenting its digital solutions and the new Er:YAG laser AdvErL Evo at the International Dental Show (IDS). In his opening remarks to the dental press conference, Jürgen-Richard Fleer, General Manager of J. Morita Europe, stressed the importance of digital technologies in today’s dental practices.

He also emphasised that dental specialist company Morita offers comprehensive solutions true to this year’s IDS slogan of “Quality of life starts with excellent solutions” not only to enable dentists to improve treatments, but also to allow patients to enjoy a better quality of life. The Japanese company describes its latest development in the field of laser technology as a soft revolution in periodontology. As such the AdvErL Evo, owing to its gentle Er:YAG laser technology, is particularly suitable for the removal of plaque and caries. According to Morita, procedures employing the AdvErL Evo are very effective and suitable for complex CIST cases especially, since the application also covers Class D CIST cases.

David Sleeman, Senior IT Manager at J. Morita Manufacturing in Kyoto, then talked about specific applications and the underlying technologies. Noteworthy with this laser is that its 2,940 nm wavelength is immediately absorbed by water. The water molecules then undergo extreme expansion, causing micro-explosions. This procedure is not only optimal for removing inflammatory tissue, but also very efficient at combating dental bacteria. In addition, there are endodontic and prosthetic indications for which the laser can be used.

The device also offers a wide range of dental attachments for various applications. The 18 tips are manufactured in such a way that they guide water and air directly to the application tip and thereby prevent any disruptive spraying. Mounted on a small trolley, the laser is connected to the unit via an optical cable and a swing arm. An adjustable handpiece holder holds the laser instrument securely on the unit. Use is facilitated by an intuitive menu, a clear display and preset programmes.

Morita is known in Europe primarily as a provider of high-quality treatment units, imaging systems, and endodontic instruments and devices. The AdvErL Evo Er:YAG laser underlines J. Morita’s almost 20 years of expertise in the field of dental laser and builds on the successes of recent years, even in 2015. The manufacturer’s mission is to continue creating the perfect combination of functionality, ergonomics and design far into the future.
