VANCOUVER, Canada: France, one of the largest dental overdenture markets in the world, boasts one of the highest average selling prices in Europe. According to international market research and consulting group iData Research, this market was valued at more than €153 million in 2013, and projections show it could reach nearly €278 million by 2020.

“The market for dental overdentures continues to increase in France as major international and domestic dental implant manufacturers are investing in developing the market,” explained Dr Kamran Zamanian, CEO of iData. “In conjunction with the low penetration rate, the expected growth in unit sales will further promote growth of the overall market.” As a whole, the French overdenture market will be driven by competition.

This year, the French overdenture market has grown by over 5 per cent compared with the previous year. The market is expected to continue to grow in unit sales, thereby further promoting the growth of the overall market.

Other key findings from iData’s report include the rapid adoption of CAD/CAM technologies. The CAD/CAM system market is well established in France, particularly in the implant bar market. Dental laboratories have been quick to adopt CAD/CAM technology to assist them in fabricating superstructures efficiently and achieving a high level of marginal fit. CAD/CAM-milled screw-retained bridges and implant bars will become more prevalent as the technology continues to improve.

According to iData, Nobel Biocare is the leading competitor in the European and the US CAD/CAM implant bar market. Its achievements in the dental implant and CAD/CAM segments in both regions have greatly contributed to the company's leading position in the market. Other notable competitors in the implant bar market are DENTSPLY Implants (ATLANTIS ISUS),BIOMET 3i and Cagenix

This in-depth look at the French market is part of a new report published by iData titled U.S. and European Overdenture Markets—2014, which covers the overdenture market as a whole, as well as non-splinted, bar-retained, fixed hybrid, and telescopic overdentures, fixed hybrid and removable implant bars, and implant and bar attachments. The report covers the US, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the Benelux and Scandinavian regions.
