ISTANBUL, Turkey: With more than 200 companies participating in the 2013 FDI Annual World Dental Congress, there will be plenty of new products for dental professionals to see and discover. Furthermore, participants in this year’s show will be able to get hands-on with the latest dental tools and technologies during a daily symposium presented by the Dental Tribune Study Club at Booth B071 in the exhibition hall.

Among the new products will be the intra-oral unit X-Mind unity from the Acteon Group (C021-022). Featuring one of the smallest focal spots on the market, the successor of the X-Mind DC is claimed to provide an optimal image with up to 50 per cent less radiation, depending on the patient’s morphology. Also on display will be the P5 Newtron and NEWTRON P5XS ultrasonic generators, which now feature B.LED technology, an innovation that allows clinicians to detect and remove dental plaque simultaneously based on the B.LED plaque-revealing agent, which is fluorescent under blue light.

In addition, Acteon announced that it will be bringing its MeToo range of tooth-whitening products to Istanbul. They come with whitening simulation software, available both as a full and trial version, that is intended to help practitioners show patients how they would look after treatment. A specially branded website provides demonstration videos, clinical cases and product specifications, the company said.

At GlaxoSmithKline’s exhibition stand (C026), clinicians will be able to obtain information on the company’s specialist oral health care products and to interact with representatives in three different brand stations (Pronamel, Parodontax and Corega). The dental consumables manufacturer will also present the Sensodyne Innovation Centre, where delegates can learn about and receive free samples of the recently launched Sensodyne Complete Protection toothpaste, which is claimed to protect the user from the pain of sensitive teeth, as well as strengthen enamel and maintain healthy gums.

Among other products, the Temrex Corporation (C55) will have its enamel etching gel Gel-Etch on display. Containing 35% phosphoric acid, the non-drying, medium-viscosity gel comes in a clearly visible colour that makes it easy to work with, according to the US company. Gel-Etch is available in a 12 g delivery syringe, as well as a 60 g bulk storage/filling syringe from which smaller syringes can be filled. As one of the earliest products of its kind, Gel-Etch has been well tested by discriminating dentists and, therefore, has a solid reputation for excellence, the company said.

CEREC Omnicam, the new intra-oral camera from Sirona Dental Systems (C035), offers dentists powder-free and comfortable digital impressions in full colour. With the addition, clinicians can now choose from two Sirona intra-oral cameras and three milling units according to their individual needs. More options for dentists are also available with the new version of the CEREC software, CEREC SW 4.2, which now has a virtual articulator for simulating jaw movements to allow dentists to determine the dynamic contact points in addition to the static ones. Furthermore, ORTHOPHOS XG 3D offers high-definition quality in both 2-D and 3-D. Depending on the imaging device type, the Panorama CSI Sensor is integrated into the product or can be purchased separately. Especially when combined with ASTRA (Anatomically STructured Reconstruction Algorithm), it provides high-contrast, low-noise panoramic imaging, according to Sirona.

EQUIA by GC Corporation (C023-025) is a self-adhesive restorative system that is claimed to provide impressive clinical results in the posterior region. The new concept combines the clinically proven EQUIA Fil high-viscosity glass ionomer material with EQUIA Coat, a light-cured, wear-resistant highly filled resin coating, for a strong restorative material that, according to the company, takes glass-ionomer technology to a new level. GC will also be exhibiting a newly developed fibre-reinforced composite, everX Posterior, which it said provides new possibilities for restoring extensive cavities and preventing crack propagation into filling materials and tooth structure. The material addresses the growing demand for an economical alternative restorative for extensive cavities, and can be used for restoring enamel and dentine when combined with a conventional composite, such as G-ænial Posterior.

The new Tornado 1 and Tornado 2—recent winner of a red dot design award—air compressor units from from Dürr Dental (C031-08) are more efficient and economical than their predecessors. Running at only 54 db(A) they are also less noisy. According to the German manufacturer, the new units can supply up to three treatment rooms.

For professionals planning to enter the field of dental CAD/CAM, Finnish equipment manufacturer Planmeca (C034) will be showcasing its full range of open CAD/CAM solutions in Istanbul, including scanners, software and milling units for use in dental practices and laboratories. Classic Sovereign, the new version of the company’s flagship dental unit, with a slim, user-friendly design and intelligent infection-control systems, will also be on display. Moreover, visitors will be able to try out the Planmeca ProMax 3D X-ray unit, which can now combine CBCT images, 3-D facial photographs and 3-D model scans to create a virtual patient for various clinical needs.
