Featuring a spiral shape and flexible “fingers” that adapt to anterior and posterior tooth surfaces, 3M ESPE’s new Sof-Lex Spiral Finishing and Polishing Wheels are designed as an alternative to traditional polishing points, cups, discs and brushes.
The fingers of Sof-Lex polishers adapt to the convex and concave surfaces of teeth and dental restorations, which can eliminate the need to use different polisher shapes to fit various surfaces while finishing restorations, according to a press release. Abrasive particles are embedded into the wheels to make them effective polishers from any angle.
The wheels are single use and work as a two-step system with a Sof-Lex Spiral Finishing Wheel used to prepare the surface and then a Sof-Lex Spiral Polishing Wheel to polish the restoration to create a natural looking surface. The wheels are suitable for finishing and polishing composites, resin-modified glass ionomers, bisacrylic temporary materials, precious metals and semi-precious metals.
